Government Pledge Support for Leather Industry Revitalization

Jonathan Mueke, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Livestock Development, recently led a tour of the Kariokor Common Leather Manufacturing Facility, underscoring the government's commitment to the revitalization of the leather industry. Following the tour, Mueke convened a stakeholder meeting to explore strategies for enhancing the facility's shoe production and quality to meet international standards.

 

During the meeting, discussions centered around crucial aspects of the facility's development. Key points included the potential supply of modern technological equipment, provision of skills training to traders, and the facilitation of market access for shoes and other leather products. The aim is to fast-track the facility's growth and competitiveness in global markets.

 

Expressing commitment to job creation, Mueke emphasized the government's dedication to revitalizing the leather industry, recognizing its significant role in generating employment opportunities.

 

Alfred Ombudo, the Principal Secretary for Trade in the Government of Kenya, also voiced support for the initiative. The State Department for Trade is actively collaborating to identify markets and work with manufacturers in supplying both domestic and international markets, demonstrating optimism for the sector's promising future.

 

The combined efforts of these government entities reflect a united front in supporting the growth and sustainability of the Kenyan leather industry.
