Kenyans are known to be fashion enthusiasts, always on the lookout for the latest fashion trends and styles. And with the recent premiere of the highly anticipated Netflix drama series, Queen Charlotte, it was no different.
The premiere, which took place in South Africa, was attended by some of Kenya's top celebrities and fashion icons. However, their choice of outfits seemed to have attracted both praise and criticism from Kenyans on social media.
Mammito Eunice, a popular Kenyan comedian, was the talk of the town with her stunning African Fabric and Design gown, accessorized by Adele Djak. Netizens praised her outfit, with one TikTok user commenting, "The melanin in Mammito makes the outfit even more stunning and breathtaking."
Kate Actress and Azziad Nassenya also received their fair share of praise for their choice of outfits. Media entrepreneur Anyiko Owoko, who attended the event, however, received criticism for her multicolor modal printed suit, which some felt was not suitable for the occasion.
“Why didn't they tell the first lady (Anyiko) about the occasion? She has dressed up like she’s going for a meeting” one TikTok user commented.
Joy Kendi, a celebrated lifestyle content creator, found herself on the receiving end of criticism for her choice of outfit. She opted for a black Afro street outfit, which some felt did not match the event's theme.
“She looks great as usual, but this is the wrong event for that outfit.” One TikTok user commented.
On the other hand, Azziad Nassenya left with Kenyans praising her choice of outfit and color that perfectly fit the event.
It seems that Kenyans have different tastes when it comes to fashion. While some appreciate the more conservative approach, others prefer to push the boundaries and try something new. Regardless, it's clear that fashion is an important aspect of Kenyan culture and will continue to be a topic of discussion.
